College students are increasingly reliant on computers – and, for many of us, that means spending tons of money software that we’d rather not use anyway. The reality, though, is that there are a ton of great, free alternatives out there for almost any purpose.

Using free web apps is an easy and cost-effective way to increase your academic productivity. A well-designed app can also replace expensive software products and free up space on your computer. Here is a list of 15 web apps that would prove useful to almost any college student:

These are web apps that live in the cloud. GIMP and OpenOffice.org are programs you download to your computer and run.

God forbid the Internet went down. People would commit suicide.

Now if only they’d write a program for index cards for Mac. And also a program for writing business letters that don’t refuse to center your return address.

Agreed. As well, I've found many free online apps tend to disappear after a short while.
