"Hmmm, what company tends to void the warranty when you change a battery? "

Another lie. Provide evidence of a single case where that has ever happened.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I suspected from your original post, as we say here in Texas, "You're eat plumb up with the Dumb@$$!"
If it's in warranty, Apple fixes it with zero hassle; why should I bother?
Get back to us in a couple of years -- when you finally graduate from third grade.
My take on it is why go onto a Mac thread and try to convince people who have made a deliberate choice to use a certain operating system and tell them they are wrong, homosexual, Liberal and worse?
Then, once you realize that you don’t like the result of doing the above, then start a vanity making the same stupid charges.
Also, there are some people in life who are simply tight-wads. They don't want to go out to dinner if they can make it at home. They buy the cheapest clothing, appliances, cars, anything.
I have a girlfriend who buys PCs and Zunes because she can't bear paying up. She has no particular desire to use Microsoft or to the Zune she has. She simply wanted to save money.
While that is her prerogative. She should buy exactly what she wants. But is unpleasant going out to eat because she likes to skrimp ... I don't.
We work in the same office. I know she is paid well. She drives a Honda ... I drive a Porsche. It's a matter of choice.
Very arrogant of you to assume that I started the thread because I didn't like the result of first thread. Unless you weren't paying attention I started the thread about the "new" battery technology of Li-poly. Glad you could keep up. I repeat I STARTED THE THREAD. If anything I wasn't the troll but the Apple fanatics that came on to try to justify their Apple company did.
I started the vanity thread after as a separate thread to try to get to the bottom of why so many Apple users resemble Democratic Underground members. The thread sort of got sidetracked but there were several people that also wondered the same question, "Why do Apple folks resemble the same kind of hatred the Democratic Underground usually portray?" I have yet to see any Apple users admit this is a common occurrence and am appalled to see they are flipping the script and accusing PC users of doing this.
Actually if I was going to use Intel, I would have used the i7 920 Nehalem 2.66 quad (it's the same chip as the XEON but is over-clockable, which the XEON isn't, and it doesn't have the ECC turned on) currently selling for $279 so add a hundred for the chip and another hundred for the more expensive MB; you're still at $1200 and you can overclock it if you choose.
Or did you use an AMD? The i7 920 is NOT the same chip as the Xeon... the i7 uses 130Watts while the Xeon uses only 95Watts. and the Xeon's QPI is 50% faster. That's a big difference.
Unless you are running a server the use of XEON chips is massive overkill. The only real difference is that XEON chips, like their Opteron AMD opposites, are tested to a much higher standard. The general reliability of commercial chips is such that for a work station or for home computing purposes server grade chips are unnecessary and a waste of money...unless you are looking for snob appeal, which most Mac users are.
These are PRO machines. That's why the higher standards. They are used in mission critical jobs. They are, I agree, complete overkill for the average home owner, but for the purpose they are designed for, saving a small amount of upfront cost can be exceedingly expensive when you are on a deadline and need that high standard the Xeon's are tested for.
I don't know of any professional user that is looking for "snob appeal", they are looking for reliability and something that will get the job done better than the competition.
I make my living keeping WINDOWS computers running for numerous small professional offices. I assure you that there are many reasons why I have elected to use Macs for my personal use and "snob appeal" is not one of them. I certainly did not buy my 24" iMac for "bragging rights" or to join a "cult." It is amazing how many Windows users get on Mac threads and tell us that our subjective and objective experiences with both Windows and Macs are reducible wanting "snob appeal" or "bragging rights." when the Windows user is really the one taking his position with a lack of experience or knowledge having used only one platform. Most of us Apple users are fully knowledgeable and experienced in Windows... because we have to work with them for our employers or have had them before we switched to Macs. The so-called "Apple Tax" is worth paying for the peace of mind a Mac provides and the expansion of our productivity that we have experienced once we switched.
We Mac users appreciate VALUE over PRICE.
The thread I was referring to which you started is named :Mac threads resemble DU.”. It’s impossible to imagine anyone starting a thread like that expecting anything but contentiousness. That is exactly what you got and many people noted that you were trying to pick a fight.
Why do you go on Mac threads? You don’t like Macs. Are you trying to ask for info on Macs, or trying to stir the pot?
You’re typical of the anti-Mac person.
Why can’t you just sit back with your cheapo PC and let people who own Macs alone?
Home builders are a huge minority in the world of computing. Of course you can build one cheaper. You can also make value judgments like thinking your cheaper hard drive is superior. I would guess some would argue with you, I don’t know. I would venture to guess that some would argue the point with you. I don’t know enough about it to argue it myself.
What is the price difference between your home built and a Dell? Is it not a similar differential? It is unfair to compare a company trying to make a profit to a person not trying to.
A G4 Mac supported two button (or 3 or 3 or 5) button mice. They didn’t ship with them, but certainly you could plug whatever mouse you wanted in and have it work.
Surely you can see how others not taken in by hype can come to a different conclusion that for their money and their interests a Mac offers the best bang for the buck. It is my conclusion. It is the conclusion of many people I know.
especially if you start criticizing Apple products or other Apple users for being naive into thinking Apple is everything their clever marketing department represents it to be.
If you are Apple threads to criticize, then you are not going to find people who agree with you. I NEVER go on PC threads ... never. I work with PCs at the office. As a result, I knew I wanted a Mac [I just bought my 6th over the years]. Since I have nothing particularly positive to say about them, I stay off PC threads.
You might want to try it.
I don't care how many years or hours or whatever I don't want to have to bring my computer anywhere if I don't have to.
I assure you, you won't have to. These are the same idiotic arguments used against the iPods eight years ago... and continuing... that the batteries were not "user replaceable." Within six months of the first iPod being released with its un-user replaceable batteries, there were literally dozens of companies selling replacement batteries along with instructions on how to replace the batteries... a five minute job.. or they would do the job for you for a slight additional, but far lower than Apple's price, fee. Now there are hundreds of such companies. I guaranty that within a few months you will see those same companies offering MacBook Pro replacement battery kits and services.
You will also see Dell, HP and Lenovo notebooks with non-user replaceable batteries as they need to compete with what Apple is offering.
In this age of Obama are you prepared to allow the government to be the only ones with a supply of toilet paper so any time to use the restroom, you need to have the government to wipe your a$$? This is the same parallel as having to go to Apple for them to change out a battery in your laptop. Totally unnecessary and slightly controlling. BTW I never knew Big Brother was one Steve Jobs.
Strawman and begging the question. When did Steve Jobs FORCE you into buying a Mac? Or an iPod. Or an iPhone?
Why do you think it's OK to have to go to Microsoft to get an update for Microsoft Windows or Office, but it's not OK to go to Apple for a repair or update to your computer?
Imagine a bleak world in the not too distant future when the freedoms we take for granted today will be long gone and our speech is regulated and controlled. When you witness on a street somewhere in your world, a public offical lying and trying to subvert an innocent man, are you going to just “leave him alone” or are you going to try to help him? Are you going to stand up for what is right or are you going to ignore the wrongdoings of that day?
" I purchased an aftermarket floppy drive and STILL use it fairly regularly."
Where does one begin with that one. I bet you are loads of fun at parties. Zip drives...better not go there. Thumb drives...forget it.
I don’t own a Mac so I don’t know if or what encryption is available.
So why are you trying to act like an expert on Macs and their benefits or foibles? You are ignorant. You trumpet your ignorance on every Mac thread you troll into.
I own Macs... and I own Windows PCs... and I own Linux machines. I work on all three (not too much on Linux). I manage networks of PCs, networks of Macs, and networks of both. I know MORE about them than do you, yet you have the unmitigated gall to tell me I am an idiot for making the choices I have made based on my superior level of information (at least as far as the advantages and disadvantages of the Mac) based on your total ignorance or the Mac platform gleaned from reading someone else's biased ignorance.
Blue, you are blind a blind man and trying to direct the seeing toward the door.
Explain how I am lying about Genius Bar procedures? DO TELL....
Exactly WHAT is your experience with the Genius Bars at Apple stores for you to even KNOW what you are talking about?
As well it should.
And what is your base of knowledge that allows you to have an opinion on the integrated battery? Exactly what integrated battery computers have you owned or used?
Wow who is pompous now... The great one has spoken. All knowing... Omniscient. Mr Superiority I bow before your presense for your knowledge of Macs. If only I had a desire to want to be enlightened to the dark side. For you to suggest you have superior knowledge over PCs is ludicrous. I’m not claiming to be all-knowing like you are but damn you are mighty presumptuous.
