It’s not hate as much as it is incredulous wonder how people can support a company that uses subterfuge to try to hoodwink their own customers. If I were a person that recieved a Macbook as a gift even I’d probably go postal seeing all the BS they try to scam their customers for. What I am really shocked is the customers are willing to bend over and take it from Steve Jobs so willingly.

I don’t see the problems you’re so wound up about.
Per this thread, I really am happy to see a company moving to such batteries for exactly the reasons you’re cheesed off at ‘em about.
Really. As I noted in a previous post, everything you’re decrying as “subterfuge” and “hoodwinking” I see as an attractive selling point.
You don’t have to buy one, nobody is forcing you to post on this thread, and if someone outright gave you a MacBook then you could easily sell/trade it for what you really want - no need to go postal.

Why obssess over non-replaceable batteries if you won’t need to replace them? some of us realize we’ll replace the device within 5 years, so if the battery outlives that (’bout time!) I wouldn’t want to pay money/size/weight to support replacable (needing extra connectors/covers/airgaps/etc.). I have exactly such a non-replacable battery in my iPod, and I greatly appreciate the space/weight/money savings it allows; when the now-outdated Li-ion cell goes, I’ll have already upgraded to a superior model.

I don’t see the problem. I see a company responding to advancing technology and users’ needs - and yes, that does involves some tradeoffs. Net tradeoff is improvement; works for me.
