CHICAGO -- Chanti (SHAN'-tee) Lawrence says visiting the Sears Tower's new glass balconies has helped cure her fear of heights - almost.
The Atlanta woman says - at the very least - she took the first step toward conquering her fear by walking out onto the glass more than 1,300 feet in the air.
The balconies, nicknamed "The Ledge," open to the public Thursday. Several visitors got a preview Wednesday.
Lawrence described the experience as "very cool but very scary."

It’s pretty cool looking out on Chicago from the top floors of the Sears Tower. The glass balconies sound great for thrill seekers, like my wife who will demand that I go there with her.
Hope I can control my lunch, not to mention ...

Who will be the first 1,300 footers? Oh, wow. I hadn't thought of that. How cool would THAT be.
Bring the windex.

I wonder if they’ll make you wear those anti-scratch shoe-cover booties worn at the Grand Canyon walkway to protect the glass....

On History Channels “Life Without People” last night, they were showing how that Grand Canyon Skywalk would go down the face.
Oh hell no, I am not getting on either one of those things.
(shudders)

You're one of those trouble makers aren't ya? I was not happy on my second floor balcony at Padre Island this past week. In Germany we were on a tour and had to cross this gorge on a little bridge. I had to wait until everyone was across and then make a mad dash. This thing would kill me, lol!

If it's not open, it's not gonna be any fun..........

I don't have any phobias about heights, and have been to the Sears Tower observation deck a number of times and really enjoyed the view. But I would have to think twice about standing on a piece of glass suspended 1300 feet above the ground.
Glass does break! ;~))

I've been up on the sky deck several times and I can assure you that Sears sways, even on a calm day. On a windy day the movement is enough to see if you set down a drink. It is a relatively slow movement so it isn't bad. From a psychological point you can push the fear out of your mind by thinking of all the metal around you. But get out in a little glass box 1300 feet up with the floor moving under your feet? I'm probably going to do it just to say i did, but I'm going to need a couple of stiff drinks afterwords.

I have been up there too, bet the balcony is really cool at night. Probably. Next time I'm in Chicago, I guess I'll have to give it a try.
But I might slip on a pair of Depends first just in case. ;~))
