Pit bull attack sends four to hospital

Four people were taken to hospital and two dogs were shot by police in connection with a Monday afternoon dog fight in Blackeberg in western Stockholm.

The two dogs, which according to police were pit bulls, initially went after a third dog, which was also injured.

When the owners attempted the separate the dogs, they were subsequently bitten by the pit bulls.

“Then these pit bulls bit two other people. These dogs then continued to hunt other people and it remains unclear if anyone else may have been bitten,” Gert Fredlin of Stockholm’s western district police told the TT news agency.

Police were called shortly after 3pm to intervene in the canine brawl. Two of the people injured were taken to hospital by ambulance, while the two others, who had less-serious wounds, were driven by the police.

The dogs were eventually shot and the owner of the pit bulls is now suspected for having contributed to the bodily harm of another.

“If someone doesn’t have their dogs on a leash that is basically a breach of laws keeping public order; if they then attack people and the owner can’t control the dogs then it becomes contributing to the bodily harm of another,” said Fredlin.

That's true. News about violent crimes perpetrated by the security guards of choice for drug dealers is even purposely censored by some agencies, newspapers and publications to various extents. A few people here and there have some kind of pathology related to pit bulls and tend to cling to them to abnormal extents.

Thank you. I'll try that, when the next bear-watching opportunity comes around. Cayenne pepper has also worked for us, although some people have said that it attracts bears. It can be bought in large, cheap boxes at Sam's Club. They'll break into chained dumpsters, before they'll get into a trash can with cayenne in it and on the lid. Bear-proof trash containers are the best way to go, but they're expensive and best made at home for most of us (cutting torch, welder and steel required. Cayenne works for porches, around thresholds and under windows, too, BTW.

Many have promoted bear spray (also made from cayenne), but it's dangerous to rely on that in the mountains. ...just too windy most of time.

It's good that we don't have any trashy neighbors or bad bears for now. The ranchers tend to be more knowledgeable and clean than suburbanites in developments with smaller properties. They're also more likely to shoot predators that threaten livestock.

There have been a lot of breakins and attacks from black bears, and news of incidents is more frequent every year. But the wildlife folks won't tally or release the numbers, and the news stories only cover a very few of the incidents. Attacks by mountain lions are also increasing, it seems mostly against city folks hiking/camping on public lands and the like. The big cats probably figure that it's safer to go after lefties than rustic folks. ;-)
