Nope. You're wrong about that. The 'rat Congress hung them out to dry during the Ford administration, long after Nixon had retired to San Clemente.

Nixon won in a landslide in 1972. Obviously the media and rabble-rousers were doing their best to hang the war on Nixon but the "Silent Majority" was behind the war effort 100%.
Well, maybe 90%.
