The FAA is already deflecting blame for the death of Billy Mays -- claiming the legendary TV pitchman wasn't wearing a seat belt when he took a shot to the head during a rough landing on a flight he was on yesterday.
Here's what we know -- Billy Mays was aboard US Airways Flight 1241 flying from Philadelphia, which landed roughly when the front tire blew out as it touched down. After the flight, Billy told FOX 13 in Tampa that something struck him in the head -- here's Billy's actual quote:
"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping. It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."
We called the FAA for comment, and a spokesperson told us, "The passenger needs to wear a seat belt during landing and he didn't."
A spokesperson for US Airways did not want to comment until more information comes to light.
Billy posted about it last on his Twitter last night, saying, "Just had a close call landing in Tampa. The tires blew out upon landing. Stuck in the plane on the runway. You can always count on US Air."
Why do any of these people jump up and start messing with their things in the overhead bin, only to stand there, crouched under the bin, while the aircraft comes to a complete stop and the doors are opened?
Well, I guess that settles it then! :)
I do see it, more so in economy than in First Class, but still.
Wowzer, I have seen someone get up and sprint up the aisle to the restroom and the flight attendants just glare b/c they are not going to get up at that point and chase the person.
Also there are many airports with a fairly long taxi to the gate after landing. Some even have intersections where a taxiing plane has to wait. So, yes, people do get up, even though the seatbelt light is still on.
I also see people unbuckle at this point and not get up, but sort of get up and tug on, say, a jacket in the overhead or lean over and get stuff from under the seat in front of them.
Again, not saying any of this applies to Mays, just that it’s possible.
P.S. - When a tire blows, might it be possible the “ka-clunks” happen a little afterward, as the air actually comes out and the tire pulls apart (if it does)?
I guess I’m saying, just because the tire blows upon landing doesn’t mean all the jolts to the aircraft occur at that precise moment or even all at once.
Which choppers? The one that slices and dices a tomato or the ones the prostitute used on him to try and bite off his tongue? I’m going to take a chance and guess you don’t know this about the shamwow guy. Google shamwow smoking gun. Just damn.
No I didn’t know. ROTF. I bet she told him, “you have to do this in the next 20 minutes, cause I can’t do this all night.”
parsy, who can’t do this all night either.
What is “minor head traume”? How would you know for sure? I think I am willing to spend extra on CT to make sure I don’t die from head trauma. Thank you.
Everybody is. That's the problem. The "statistics of one" are powerful. Individuals are only worth so much to society. The argument is that I don't want to pay for 9,999 CT scans to save some person who has no relevance to me. (not even taking age into account; what if they are 95?) However, If I'm (or my kid) are the one person who would be saved by performing 10,000 CT in order not to miss one, then I think its money well spent!
ZerO's healthcare plan looks at this first. /S
