How's that hope, change workin' out?

The economy is tanking.

The Iranian people are revolting over a rigged re-election by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and Barack Obama neither condemns the corruption nor encourages the protests.

North Korea is threatening some real fireworks on Independence Day by firing a missile at Hawaii.

So how's that hope and change working out for you?

It's not that Obama isn't doing anything. He's doing plenty. But while national security and America's principled stature in the world are suffering, Obama is working overtime at dismantling all vestiges of a free-market economy.

There's a silver lining under this dark cloud.

Obama's policies – both at home and abroad – are not sustainable. They are counterproductive. They are destructive. They cannot and will not lead to a safer and more prosperous country.

Days of reckoning are ahead of us.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. Yes, there is the assurance of future pain. But if that pain results in a learning experience for Americans, it might all be worth it in the end.

bounded.

In the 1970s, Jimmy Carter was elected because his opposition was a John McCain-style Republican by the name of Gerald Ford. Unprincipled Republicans like Ford and Richard Nixon had governed like Democrats for eight years. Jimmy Carter, though, cowered before our enemies, scolded our friends and destroyed the economy with regulation and spending.

Does all that sound familiar?

We just went through eight years of a Republican administration that was, in many ways, especially in terms of spending and expanding government , indistinguishable from the previous eight years of Democratic control.

That's how we got Obama. He was a gift from George W. Bush and John McCain. He wouldn't be in the White House without their ineptitude and reliance on unrestrained, uncontrolled government spending and intervention.

Barack Obama neither condemns the corruption nor encourages the protests [in Iran]

..but he was lightning fast to condemn the expulsion of his Marxist brother in Honduras.

You don't win by losing.

The problem is that things that Carter (and other liberals) left behind are lingering and biting us today: like Iran and the Community Reinvestment Act. And thats over 25 years ago.

“Days of reckoning are ahead of us. “

Yes they are. America will have to be driven to its knees before enough of us wake up and do what is necessary. And I’m not talking about voting or debate. We’ll never see another truly free, open and honest election in this country until after the next American Civil War – the Left, ACORN, massive vote fraud and gutless Republicans have seen to that.

Here’s another problem. When liberls get laws passed and regulations put in place, conservatives never seem to be able to overturn them. So liberal institutions, bureaucracies and “ways of thinking” become ingrained.

For all the talk of a Reagan Revolution, his administration was really nothing more than a skillful rearguard action. He was elected on a platform to eliminate a couple of federal departments, but was unable to execute on that pledge.

So at some point there will be a reaction to Obama’s excesses and we’ll have a right-of-center President and Congress. Te question is, will they have the will and skill to not just halt the effects of Obama’s administration, but to roll it back? Lowering taxes is the easy bit - I’m talking about repealing TARP, privatizing banks and auto industries, overturning climate change legislation, etc.

I just returned from a wilderness trip and haven’t been able to find out about the Honduras thing. Do you know of any threads here on FR about it?

I tried searching “Honduras” but got no results.

When searching, try also searching by ‘Title’. It will pull up anything with keywords that appear in the title.

I did try Title and got nothing there either. Sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Thanks very much for the link!

We don’t have the numbers to vote in a right-of-center POTUS. With amnesty for illegals and massive Acorn voter fraud combined with a political ruling class that will not relinquish power and an ever-growing dependency class, our country as we knew it is gone.

“Days of reckoning are ahead of us. “

The days of reckoning are bankruptcy. The $$ just do not exist to fulfill the promises made by the government.

The issue is not if, but first when the bankruptcy occurs. Then the real issue is what happens after the financial crisis. Will we be able to retain our republic and constitution?

I fear not.
