PALMDALE - A day after Michael Jackson's sudden death, paparazzi and entertainment news photographers converged Friday on the Palmdale home of Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe, who gave birth more than 10 years ago to two of the pop star's children.
Rowe, who married Jackson in 1996, lives in a single-story ranch-style home, surrounded by pepper trees, pines and other trees, with two dozen horses and stables in the rear. The couple divorced in 1999.
Rowe's home on Friday was barricaded by four cars - two at each opening to her semicircular driveway, with a "No Trespassing" sign on a wooden gate post.
There was no sign of Rowe, though, and calls to her home and cellphone went unanswered Friday. Rowe has lived in Palmdale for at least three years and was the subject of a September 2007 blurb in People magazine that reported she bred racehorses in Palmdale.
Gonzalez said about 25 horses are on the ranch, which has stables behind the home.
It is unclear whether Rowe will seek custody of Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11. Entertainment news source TMZ reported on its Web site Friday she is "poised to take full custody of the two children she bore for Michael Jackson."
The Web site declared false any reports that she gave up her parental rights to the children.
The Daily Mail reported Rowe was living alone, breeding horses and dogs and "there is little evidence in this impoverished and dusty backwater of the small fortune she is reputed to have received for effectively becoming America's most famous surrogate mother."
Some motorists driving by the home Friday stopped to see why camera crews were standing across the street. Others rolled down their windows and yelled, "Leave them alone" at the camera crews.

I’ve seen pics of the kids. Their father is not Michael Jackson nor any other black man. They look as Caucasian as any other white kids.
this woman IMO is an evil slut.....allowing children to reside with that insane person .......let alone PRODUCING children for that person...
In a way I agree with you. I think she sold her soul for money.
if she’s breeding racehorses, along with breeding purebred dogs, I’d say that’s a pretty good indication of where the settlement money went. Sounds like a great place to raise kids with values, tho - too bad she sold them like horses.
I admit I’ll never understand giving my babies to anyone else to raise and then seeing them every couple of months for a day. But surrogates do it, and people bear children for family members and gay couples & the like, so I suppose there’s a type of personality for whom this works fine. Poor kids. Don’t you just feel awful for them.
