You asked — Why is he selling it for peanuts at auction? When eBay gets a big chunk of the proceeds?

Well, if the guy genuinely believes it to be authentic, the notoriety achieved by putting it on eBay would be priceless. I’d assume he expected it to be pulled.

If it’s a scam, he has multiple copies and was going to sell a whole batch of ‘em, lol.

Well, for one thing, a COPY of a birth certificate does not preclude OTHER copies.
The seller could do both, if it is real or if it is bogus.

If it is a person messing with Obama’s head, or the heads of his supporters, I think it is funny.

Kind of like a black-mailer getting the victim to pay for photos when you still have the negative!
