But it does have importance. His life was a prescription for tragedy. He wasn't allowed to be a child let alone a normal child so how could he be a normal adult? This is the kind of imprint that exploitation can leave on a child.

And according to all accounts (including his own), Jackson and his siblings were seriously abused by their father. That doesn't give him the slightest excuse for his own crimes against children, but sometimes it seems like child abuse is almost a living thing, transmitted down the generations by abuse victims who grow up to abuse children themselves.
