This isn’t just a Repub thing, this is a politician in general thing. Let’s face it, for the most part, it has been a long time since politics has drawn in statesmen.. Politicians are the lowest form of career next to lawyers (no offense to good lawyers comparing you to politicians) and people pimping MLMs.

This isn't even a politician thing. This is a midlife crisis sort of thing that happens in all political parties, businesses, churches, and even nonworking derelicts. It is also rife in both sexes. The midlife itch to have one last fling before it is too late, to rev up the old motor and show there is still fire in the equipment. The self indulgence and self lies support what the person wants to do. Then the pancake batter hits the fan and instead of cooking up something sweet, it covers whole lives with a mess.

I really doubt that out of 50 governors, Sanford is the only one to have an affair. In fact I suspect there are several more going on to this day. In fact I suspect some are known to the media but they don’t care about those.

The combination of money, access, and power are an addictive drug.

The saddest part is that the South Carolina GOP appears ready to toss him overboard and have already stated that they have two “wonderfull” senators up to the job. Personally I can forgive him (that is the Christian way) and hope that he remains the governor since we have too few with the integrity he’s shown in political matters.

Only sociopaths want public office badly enough to win, these days.

“This isn’t just a Repub thing, this is a politician in general thing.”

That’s true but the republicans and conservatives who preach family values always look like the bigger hypocrites, and rightfully, end up with the bigger condemnations.

Bottom line - you gotta walk the walk if you’re going to talk the talk.

Unfortunately, I think it is a societal thing. And will get worse rather than better. Honor, integrity, ethics, they are all jeered at derisively............depending on your political persuasion. It's a private matter unless you are a Repub or conservative. For conservatives the political moniker doesn't matter. I hope that remains to be the case.
