It’s more than the affair. Cheating on your wife and 4 young sons is creepy and disgusting but disappearing the way he did is evidence of a huge lack of good judgement. I wouldn’t trust him to walk my dog at this point.

Forgiveness usually requires some for of repentence on the sinners part. I believe that the affair is ongoing and that Sanford was making an effort to justify it.

Yep, agreed. You can go to any company, even the US Air Force....and you see the same stuff going on.
We had some senior NCO who was supposed to make quarterly trips from Germany to Langley to discuss manpower...week-long episode.
One day, about eighteen months into her period there, we had to call Langley to get her fixed up to tack on another week at a second location...except no one had seen her since Monday at lunch (this was Thursday morning). Then folks found out that she usually just showed up the first morning and disappeared the rest of the week...every single visit.
She was given a choice...either explain the whole business or volunteer to retire. She retired within ten days after returning from the trip.
There are thousands of Governor Sanfords within state and federal government.
