The main difference between this and BOB is that The Pacific, as I understand it, is fiction along the lines of Battle Cry as opposed to BOB being a dramatization of a nonfiction work. The word is that it's mostly based on Eugene Sledge's "With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa" and Robert Leckie's "Helmet For My Pillow," plus they're working in the story of John Basilone, which should cover Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.
Basically they've had to create a fictional spine from which to hang true stories.
