So much for that epic "battle" between the iPhone 3GS and the Pre.
This far surpassed the predictions of the Wall Street analysts...

Already posted, albeit the Apple press release and not the Yahoo article about the Apple press release.

That is outstanding, hats off to Apple and AT&T - never expected they'd have enough people who'd want to get rid of their old iPhone to buy a new one, and continue with AT&T service.

Amazing device.
I’ve never been a fan of anything Apple except the iPods, but the iPhone is an outstanding piece of hardware. The 3G-s even more so.

If they would open the carrier selection they could probably make that 10 million.

Anyone have experience using phones as a wireless external modem for 3G, Edge or EVDO as primary internet access? I’m thinking about the possibility of doing this and am wondering if anyone has any tips.

The iPhone is simply a tremendous product.
There is no doubt that the AT&T agreement has been a drag on iPhone sales however. Imagine if customers were not locked into AT&T - I doubt Apple would have the manufacturing capacity to keep up with demand if customers could use the iPhone with other services like Verizon.
