To: 668 - Neighbor of the Beast

I thought Telstar was originally a Joe Meek produced British instrumental. I’d seen a version of it with lyrics (in French) but figured they were made up lyrics just like when Don Ho sang words to Quiet Village and the theme from Hawaii Five Oh.

Bobby Rydell recorded a version in the ‘60s. He was an acquaintance of my mother’s, maybe that was why she enjoyed it so. The lyrics went like this:

Magic star above, send a message to my love
tell him that I’ll wait patiently;
I’m sad and so lonely dreaming of him only;
swift and graceful as a dove
as graceful as a dove!

When you think about it, the dove was an ancient method of distant communication, so it was more than a convenient rhyme.
