Yes, as a matter of fact. As a direct result of the war, my family lost over 3/4 of their land, which would be worth billions today.
Considering the long economic climb back from losing the arable land, clearing fields of timber and starting over, I'd definitely say there has been a lasting effect. The remaining fragment of those landholdings has been passed from generation to generation for over 350 years, but it was the least desireable of that land and is worth a pittance compared to what the value of the total holding would have been.
it is also true that the IGNORANT/arrogant/hate-FILLED minority of northerners (who are known as DAMNyankees) are TOO STUPID/blinded by PREJUDICE to know that they too have the boot-heel of the ELITES on their collective necks.
note: unlike your family, my family had little of monetary value before the war and even less after-wards, as we were poor AmerIndians BUT we understand that we lost most of our LIBERTY & have NOT recovered it.
