Chances are that it will never happen again due to the way pitchers are utilized these days.
It was fairly unusual back in the day, and baseball went 20 years between Lefty Grove and Warren Spahn. They were all saying it couldn’t be done, and if it could, Warren Spahn was an unlikely man to do it.
IMO, the use of middle relievers and closers ought to make it easier for a pitcher to win 300 games. We’ve had four of them in less than ten years: Clemens, Maddux, Glavine, Johnson. Mike Mussina could do it. He’s reasonably healthy. I doubt that Andy Pettite will make it due to arm troubles, but he might. Pedro’s arm has fallen off.
Roy Oswalt and Roy Halladay might make it, but that will be another ten years. I’m not so sure about the rest of the current crop.
