Sam rocks! But who do we compare him to in TV/film lore? He as good a second banana as there is and to some extent, he makes the show. Loyal but a vagabond, tough yet sweet, a slacker at heart but you always want him on your team.

He is a combination of TC and Rick from Magnum.

Good comparisons!
I also like the sexual tension between Fi and Michael reminiscent of the old Moonlighting series. (although they have scratched that itch)

I've just recently found Burn Notice. Way cool. I'll set the DVR to record the new season tonight.

Sam is my favorite character too. Fiona? That chick has issues. She always wants to shoot someone or blow something up. Eye candy, but scary eye candy. ;-) Michael has some great pithy lines and most of the action scenes. But Sam, Sam provides the comic relief and the "I just don't give a dang" attitude.

She always wants to shoot someone You have a problem with that? Most if not all of them deserve shooting. (grin)

The one thing I do not like about the show is his Mother. Whoever that actress is, I simply can’t stand her.

I have no idea who we could compare him to as far as sidekicks. He does make the show. Mom is funny too, smoking away and always thinking there’s something wrong with her. I’m going to go watch it since the rugrats are tucked in...I was so used to it coming on at 10. Thank goodness for DVR!

Hard to imagine that she’s a mother of three kids.

Her name is Sharon Gless. She is probbaly best known for her role as Sgt. Christine Cagney on “Cagney & Lacey” back in the 80s. She also appeared as Colleen Rose (a total psycho) on several episodes of “Nip/Tuck”.
