“...and another despairing effort by the Indians had come to naught.”
Other than the writing style, this might appear in today’s paper. I’ll always be an Indians fan, but watching their bullpen get lit up night after night is really depressing.

Can we just stop the 1939 season and have the World Series now?I suppose we could. We could resolve the international situation now too, but then we would have to find a new way to keep ourselves entertained until 2015.

It’s not without reason that the statue outside Jacobs Field* is of Bob Feller. I really like how the new ballparks have the statues of the great Hall of Famers from the past. I also really like the architecture and amenities of the new parks; they all have a very nice “feel” to them. Jacobs Field was one of the first of those parks, and it is a very nice park. It’s much better than those “multi-purpose” stadiums of the 1970s, that have all thankfully been blown up. I went to Riverfront and the Vet, which means that I also went to Busch, Three Rivers and Fulton County. There was no difference.
Three years ago we took a quick summer trip to Cleveland; went to a Sunday afternoon game to see the last game of a series against the Twins. Stayed overnight, and the next day went to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, then that night went to see the first game of a series against the Tigers. I liked the idea of being in town on two days to get two different teams during a home stand.
*I refuse to call the park by it’s corporate name.

Major League baseball west of the Mississippi? That's crazy talk. There are two teams a couple of miles west of the Mississippi. What more do those west coast fans want?

There are two teams a couple of miles west of the Mississippi. Is St. Louis on the west bank?
I looked at a map last year and calculated that the longest road trip for teams from that era was Boston-St. Louis.

I really like how the new ballparks have the statues of the great Hall of Famers from the past. That reminded me of the baseball Giants new park in S.F. Willie Mays stands out front. As you said, it is an attractive venue. The problem for me was new Sound of Baseball. They have speakers placed about every ten feet in the seating area and it is one long blast once the game starts. Advertising, pep rally stuff, dot racing, techno noise. Sometimes all at once. It is not the peaceful, contemplative experience I remember from my yoot.

Well, they lost today, if that’s what you mean.
Of course, I used to root for them when they were the Washington Senators...

Just when the Rangers were getting good, of course now the Yankees just had to get better as well, just like the late 90s.

I like the look of CJ Wilson... A good setup man is worth his weight in gold. I wonder how he would look in pinstripes...
And Elvis Andrus looks pretty good, too. Jeter can’t play forever...

Correction, there is one baseball team west of the Mississippi, the Cardinals. The proper term for the St. Louis Browns is “doormat”.
