DETROIT (Reuters) – The Detroit Red Wings edged the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday to set up a Stanley Cup finals rematch with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Darren Helm's overtime goal sealed the Western Conference title for Detroit, the defending NHL champions, who will now host Game One of the Stanley Cup finals against the Penguins. Pittsburgh booked their return to the finals on Tuesday by completing a 4-0 sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes.

That was a great game last night with both goalies putting up outstanding performances. I think Osgood is underrated. The Pens game is to break down goalies with constant offensive pressure while the Wings look awesome on defense. I’m really looking forward to this one.

GO PENS!

HUGE PEN fan here. Not to mention that I really do hate the Redwings. So, it’s a double double for me! Can’t wait.

Sorry to my friendly Redwing fans everywhere. :}

That 4 games to 1 thumpin’ the Hawks just suffered must hurt a lot. Better put some ice on it, Tank.

I’ve got my icebags out and in place. I surely wanted the Hawks to win since I AM from the Chicago area...AND my hatred of all things Redwings. However, going 5 games with THREE of them OT games doesn’t produce the “thumping” that truly deserves icebags.

Besides, I’m much more attached to the Pens anyway and it would have been most awkward with “the other half” of my family being diehard Hawks fans.

I watched them with my dad on the B&W in the 70s and 80s, because we were grossly outnumbered in the household. The color tv was NOT for hockey fans. I also remember listening to the games on Canadian radio--in French. Didn't matter that I couldn't understand most of the call, it was still exciting.

It's now decades later, and my mom is a true convert, never misses a game. GO WINGS!!!

Oh Yeah! Go Wings! I remember many times of going to “The Joe” with my Dad to watch them back in the 70’s.

Are you sure about that...the first Red Wings game in Joe Louis Arena history was on December 27, 1979. Perhaps you're thinking of the old Olympia arena? :-)

79 or 80. All I really remember was the funky clothes, hairdo’s and beer being thrown at the opposing players. I do remember the Olympia as well though.

Ah, to be in Detroit, now that Lord Stanley is back again.......

Too bad the Pens won’t be wearing these again this year.

Wow!

Can you believe how they moved up the 1st game to Sat? This is very unusual.

WJR is ticked...said that NBC would never do this to the NBA or the NFL. No way, especially if a team captain was injured.

Even our guys did not know until last night that the game was moved, they thought it was on the 5th, as per the usual break in between the Conf final, and the Cup series.

This means two games in a row, then hitting the road, no home team advantage, and what if there is a long overtime game on Sat? Yikes.

Hockey gets no respect!!!

Just like last year I don’t know who to root for. I don’t really like either team. One thing I noticed is that they are putting games 1 and 2 on consecutive nights. That’s interesting. My bet is that this is an NBC power play (no pun intended) so that NBC does not have to show the game during their weekday prime time line-up. I also have a theory that when you have two strong teams like this and they play on consecutive nights that its hard for one team to win both games (although Pittsburgh disproved that theory by winnings games 4 and 5 versus Washington).

I didn't like the NBC coverage. In the begging they were favoring Chicago.

I can't believe how they bumped the schedule either. It's so true they would never do that in any other sport.
