While I agree with everything in the article, the author neglected to report the child hadn’t been buckled in. Blame for the child’s death is shared by all involved.

Running a red light probably lead to a "T Bone" hit on the victim's car. Not all cars have side airbags and seat belts in this instance would not have been effective. In any case, a four year old should have been in a child safety seat, not belted in.
I think "sharing" out the blame to the mother is unnecessarily callus, she will carry her own for the rest of her life with no need for you to add to it.
