I wouldn’t call Steely Dan pop, but I just purchased my tickets to their June 19th show at the Wharf in Orange Beach Alabama. I believe Styx and REO are playing there soon as well but not a fan. Love the ‘Dan though.

Journey isn’t Journey without Steve Perry.

The worst, the pretentious, the pseudo artistic, the lowest common demnominator of the 1970s are getting back together? And why, one wonders, can’t they leave us in peace? ‘Coz that’s where the money is, to quote Willie Sutton.

put together a couple of big-name acts for a nationwide tour, then record a song together to promote the event.

My guess is that they've come to realize that they can no longer live on their social security checks alone......

IIRC, Reo Speedwagon was a group from Champaign, IL (U. of Illinois) who did Midwest college tours in the early 70’s before they became “big time”.

I saw them in concert (1972 or ‘73) and thought they were much better in their salad days.

Same thing with Ted Nugent. Saw him in 1971 before he went national. Much better.

Kool and the Gang also did the early ‘70’s college tour before hitting big time. Never saw them, but a friend had an 8-track album that he used to blast in his Olds 442.

Ah! The good old days. You can’t recreate them.

Becker and Fagen joined the touring band of Jay and the Americans for roughly a year and a half. They were at first paid $100 per show, but partway through their tenure the band's tour manager cut their salaries in half.[15] The group's lead singer, Jay Black, dubbed Becker and Fagen “the Manson and Starkweather of rock ‘n’ roll”, referring to cult leader Charles Manson and spree killer Charles Starkweather.
These guys have been around, in College they had a band with Chevy Chase as the drummer. Great music with the Dan.

Steely Dan was cool.

I wouldn't go see Styx or Journey or REO Speedwagon even if the tickets and the beer were free.
