Read in an interview that his Mom didn't recall any pink boxers, but he does own a red shirt.
My theory is that he washes clothes with the same caution as most males his age, i.e. throw it all in together.

Look, it’s the army’s fault for not giving them any clothes. They probably got sent from home...OR maybe in the frenzy he grabbed his girlfriend’s boxers.
