Bill Clinton's saxophone auctioned at Cannes AIDS gala

Bill Clinton's celebrated saxophone goes under the hammer Thursday at a star-studded AIDS fund-raiser held each year during the Cannes film festival.

The former US president joins actress Sharon Stone to head this year's gala for the American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmfAR), one of Europe's main charity events, which last year raised 10 million dollars.

Guest of honour this year will be ground-breaking DNA scientist, James Dewey Watson, the 81-year-old biochemist and 1962 Nobel Medicine prizewinner who discovered DNA structure.

Directors Quentin Tarantino and Lars Von Trier also are expected along with A-listers Michelle Yeoh, Joshua Jackson, Elizabeth Hurley, Mike Meyers, Eva Green, the designer duo Dolce & Gabban and Donatella Versace.

And singer Annie Lennox will give a special performance for the 800 VIP guests seated at tables worth 100,000 dollars apiece.

For the first time the gala will take place at the Riviera palace, the Eden Roc, at Cap d'Antibes.

Nearly everyone, with any Hollywood status (speaking of males), has screwed Sharon Stone. As far as Brad Pitt is concerned ... he and Angela have a mansion on the French Riviera within easy driving distance of Cannes.

Whatever happened to we're-all-gonna-die-from-AIDS, even monogamous heterosexual couples? Why is this such a celebrated disease? I mean, it's so cool to support AIDS research because...why? Why is that again?
