Sorry but the government made no such promise. The Supreme Court has even ruled that SS can be modified at will by Congress. There are SS taxes and there are SS payouts and that is all. Our government takes it from Peter and gives it to Paul There are no contracts, moral obligations, intergenerational agreements, trust funds, or rights of any sorts. Please refer to it by its proper term WELFARE.I agree to a point, but since it can be modified at will by Congress (as you say), it can and should be made to reflect what people believed when they paid into it year after year after year... Every year we all get these letters saying "here are your projected benefits based on what YOU paid in" etc.
Trust me, if I did not know what you said, I would not be so interested in holding some collective feet to the fire. Uncle Santa speaketh out of both sides of his mouth.

Don't get me wrong...I like your screed but there is nothing with which to hold the government's feet to the fire. To the extent the people accept at face the value the govs claim that they are owed benefits it reinforces the govs percieved right to continue its oppressive taxation. Better for people to just admit that when they get old they are going to, by the point of an IRS gun, force younger people to support them. Better yet if you receive it just admit that you are on the government dole and thank god for the benevolence of your gracious government.
