Most of the time when I was scheduled overseas our votes didn’t get counted. A lot of times it was because the “voting officer” didn’t get the absentee ballots from the states. Sometimes it was because they were submitted too late. It really chapped my butt that this was such a low priority.
I’d like to make a radical suggestion...which some folks won’t like. The minute you enlist into the military...you resign your state status and get exempted from any state tax or any state driver’s license issue. You are get exempted from the census count.
We issue you a federal driver’s license good for as long as you are active duty. We also create a representative who will represent all active duty members in the military...who will be in a one-year status (can only in this position for twelve months maximum), and it will alternate between republicans and democrats as each year comes and goes. The party will pick their individual. As for you dependents...if they want to be federally exempted as well during this period...they merely register.
So we basically take away all the voting troubles and just give a permanent rep to the members of the military. We also dump all their state tax issues as well. If the states don’t want to work on fixing the issue...we will fix it for them.
