Two weeks before the official start of Hurricane Season, an area of disturbed weather has developed in the Caribbean. Potential for heavy rain in Florida exists over the next several days.
Statement as of 3:40 PM EDT on May 18, 2009
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...
Satellite imagery and surface observations indicate that an area of disturbed weather has formed over eastern Cuba...the southeastern Bahamas...and the adjacent waters. Slow development of this system is possible during the next day or two as it moves generally northward at 10 to 15 mph. An Air Force Reserve hurricane hunter aircraft will investigate the system on Tuesday...if necessary. There is a low chance...less than 30 percent...of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.

Going to be a VERY slow ‘cane season through 24 July, in GOM at least. Water temps won’t support any sort of thermal accumulation. You might see some decent rains, though.
Good. South Florida is in a huge drought and could use a bunch of rain.
Thanks for the ping.
Hey NN,
Thanks for the ping.
Well the rain the last couple of days has sure been welcome. Some of the water hazards on the course had gone to muck puddles. Actually water in them again, so bring on the rain, just leave the wind behind.
Let's hope the old wive's tale holds true where lots of May rains make for a weak hurricane season. Bring on the rain!
My lawn is a luscious green! Fertilized just before the rains started the other day. Yay!
We looked over the hurricane supply kit yesterday. It’s in pretty good shape. I am eying a thermoelectric cooler for this year with both AC and 12 volt power sources.
My garden is drowning here in middle Tennessee! We have had 8 inches of rain so far in May (normal is 4 all month) with more to come this weekend. On top of that, we have a frost warning for tonight!
Have I missed a hurricane already?
It’s too early! Told wife yesterday that it wasn’t necessary to start making ice yet. Guess her radar was working.
No hurricanes yet. We’re just getting warmed up.
If I told you, the fantasy would be destroyed. ;o)
Sigh.................sniff...ok....
Thanks for the PING NN!
Well I see that I will have a storm with my name this year — Bill!
Ours has a couple big dead patches. We always seem to miss out on a lot of rain the rest of the city gets...but the last four days it’s been nice, and today will help. It’ll come back soon enough. At least we’re not having to mow every 4 days like we usually do in the summer.
We have a well, but this once a week watering isn’t enough to keep the parts that are directly exposed to the sun, all day, from drying up with that little amount of watering.
May they all go just _____ of us. :) Happy season everyone!
We finally hooked up the irrigation system to the reclaimed water a couple of months ago. No watering limits now, so the lawn was looking rather perky before the rains started the other day. Before that, we used the well water.
