I've known good dogs and bad dogs, but I've never known a bad cat. But maybe I just missed the latest attack of a toddler by a pit bullcat.

There’s a large white Persian in my neighborhood called “Ghost Cat”. S/he hangs around at nite and attacks dogs when they are being walked by their masters. Absolutely fearless, even of German Shepherds.
Or if you really want bad cats, there are the Feral Cats. One or two generations into living in the bush, they are as lawless as bikers, except entirely without a biker’s redeeming qualities (of which there are many). Once they have gone feral, these cats double in size and weight, their snouts elongate and their eyes bulge out. People should not go near Feral Cats unarmed.
Oh lord, I have. My husband’s grandmother had the meanest cat I’ve ever laid eyes on. He’d wait to ambush you...bolt around a corner, claw your ankle open, then run off.
He got me good the first time I visited there, too...he acted all cute to lure me in, meowing and tail up in the air and all the things you associate normally with a friendly happy kitty. Decided foolishly that any cat who rubbed on my ankles and did the little hop can’t be THAT bad, and got nailed when I reached down. Oh did he ever spend the whole day after that sitting around staring smugly!
I’ve been bitten and clawed by scared cats, injured cats, a cat with brain damage who really didn’t have control of his actions at times. Never seen a one who went out of their way to lure you like this berserk cat did.
We've had mostly good cats. When one stray came by, we took him in. Meanest little squirt you ever saw. He would sit across the room scoping out the one he had some problem with. You could see his little head, moving & getting his aim correctly, and then would fly across the room & bite the 'victim'.
He was so bad, we named him Junkyard. We were horrified one day when he jumped into the playpen with baby Michael. Before we could make a move - Junkyard cuddled up and laid down - at peace with the world.
He literally adopted the baby & liked spending time in the playpen with him.
So, I guess most animals have reasons for what they do and the problems we see in them is a lack of communication, in some cases.
