Anecdotal Bacon Story:
I have a brother who is 80 years old, and apart from some osteo-arthritis, in excellent health.
Every day of the week, except Friday (old school Catholic) throughout his entire adult life, he has cooked one quarter pound of bacon for breakfast, accompanied by toast with real butter and three eggs basted in the bacon grease.
Our sainted grandmother did the same thing, and it eventually killed her - at age 97.
I suspect feeling happy in life is more important than what's eaten. Bacon and eggs - eating what was comfortable - made your grandma happy ... kept her going.
If you’re female and over 45, the sodium nitrites/nitrates in cured meats are the quickest way to get a hot flash, if you’re masochistically looking forward to having one.
