you're actually suggesting someone NOT get a harley? i'm shocked!
whatchu think? maybe a used vulcan 500 would probably be a good suggestion. similar riding position, much lower price, less weight, and a lot less power.

Vulcan 500 is a good choice. It might actually outperform a stock 883 if you wring it out, but it makes its power up high in the rpm band.
If it wasn’t so small, I’d consider one for a daily commuter. High mpg, low price, very basic engine.

Yep, I love Harley, but I wouldn’t suggest learning on one. Then again, I only like two Harley models, the Sportsters and the touring frames. You couldn’t sell me another Dyna or Softail.
The Vulcan 500 would be an excellent starter bike.
