Cheney jabs Powell on party loyalty

Continuing to resist the luxury of a quiet retirement, former Vice President Dick Cheney turned his fire on Colin Powell Sunday, questioning in a TV interview whether the former Bush administration secretary of state is even a Republican anymore.

Appearing on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Cheney said he was siding with Rush Limbaugh over Powell in the ongoing dispute between the conservative talk show host and the moderate retired general.

“Well, if I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I’d go with Rush Limbaugh,” Cheney told moderator Bob Schieffer. “My take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn’t know he was still a Republican.”

Schieffer, somewhat taken aback by the broadside, asked: “You think he’s not a Republican?”

Cheney responded by pointing out that Powell had endorsed President Barack Obama last fall.

“I assume that that’s some indication of his loyalty and his interest,” Cheney said.

The tough talk comes amid considerable internecine warfare between GOP moderates and conservatives, establishment and movement types. Many in the party want to elevate new faces, but Cheney’s attack serves as a reminder of the continued prominence of some of the GOP’s most familiar figures.

Ever since Colon Powell (Racist) announced he was a repub, I haven't heard a remark that wasn't leftist out of his pie hole.

I assume that Martin also noted in an earlier story how Powell “turned his fire” on the Republican party.

It must be unbearable for him to witness the circus act that is currently going on, especially since he knows more than almost anyone what is at stake.

I hadn't really thought of it in those terms. That's a very good point.

I bet there are a lot of angry and perplexed Republicans in Washington. I hope God blesses the Republican party with a miracle conservative. Soon.

Ah yes, it is nice to remember when we had real men with cajones in the White House, such as Dick Cheney.

Huh?
The loony left vermin at Politico doing their normal hatchet job on the Republican party again?
Who are these “many” they are talking about?
And who are these so-called “new faces”?
Colin Powell the Obama supporter?
Gimme a break!
Politico would like nothing more than a complete capitulation of the Repubicvan Party to the whims of the hard line communist, terrorist loving super evil Obama regime.
Not gonna happen.

Cheney hits the nail on the head once again.
Powell should simply go back to his fatherland Jamaica, where he can grow ganga all day and spew out communist propaganda and help screw up their economy even more than it is already, if he wants.
The last thing the Republican party needs, is a guy that endorsed/voted for Obunga, telling us what direction the party should go.

I'm all but completely convinced that Powell is a “Trojan Horse” for the Democrats. There is no logic to the points he's trying to make when you cast his words against his actions.

Powell says he thinks the party is too conservative. But McCain was the most liberal candidate in modern-day Republican history, and powell didn't just “not support” McCain, but endorsed the most liberal Democrat presidential candidate in history.

Now he continues to use his supposed Republican credentials to undermine that party and paint it as intolerant.

Intolerant? You want intolerant, take a look at what the Democrats did to Joe Lieberman for simply continuing to support the war that many Democrats had voted to support when it began. Did then-Senator O-Dumbass come out and criticize the Democrats for running Joe Lieberman out of their party over a disagreement on a political issue? If so, I missed it.

Powell is deliberately attempting to undermine the Republican Party. He's showing us a new version of the “seminar caller” we've all heard on the Rush Limbaugh program, and others.
