This is a great story and the company they mention was just profiled on 60 Minutes. We need to think big to solve our energy problems. I found their website, here is a link in case you are interested. www.energetictechnologies.com

How do they know it’s a breakthrough and not just another white elephant?

Yep big thinking will do it. Like no more drilling, no more coal, no more nuclear. That’s thinking big. Really big stoopid.

Our present energy “problem” can easily be solved with the resources and technology that we have today.

They talk about funding “breakthroughs” as if the money will miraculously ensure a new, workable solution will arise.

These people are not intelligent, IMO.

Yes, lets search for the Holy Grail of energy and not actually do anything. I just know there is a pony in there somewhere. Good plan?

I'm sure there is a secret that the evil energy companies are hiding the will give us all free energy for zero cost and it will also provide jobs for everyone without polluting anything.

I would go for Anti-gravity first. Yes it’s a long shot but look at the payoff - we could send Obama to the moon for next to nothing.

Change its name from Cold Fusion to Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) - that’s the ticket. It’s working so well for Climate Change aka Global Warming.

But they are funding new technologies and they are so sure of success they are killing the oil, gas, coal and nuclear industry. Soon we will all be very happy with our new wind and solar powered energy.

Last I heard, the official DOE policy was that they would potentially fund cold fusion proposals that pass through the normal peer review process.

I can’t believe this company was profiled (or maybe I can w/ CBS’ journalistic standards). What is a “SuperWave”? It’s pretty magical, since it applies not only to cold fusion but to disease too. Every link to a publication (none in a peer reviewed physics or chemistry journal) are by this guy Dardik. They read more like philosophical infomercials than scientific papers.
