January 26, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- When we think of police canine units, the breed that most commonly comes to mind is the German shepherd.
But rookie canines on the job now are anything but ordinary.
The two newest members of the Cook County Sheriff's K9 unit are unique and are already performing beyond expectations.
A big bloodhound puppy named Melanie helped police rescued a suicidal man from a forest preserve earlier this month.

The police officers in that video certainly agree with you:
“The biggest problem we have with the pit bulls is that they are too nice.”
Aw, what a pretty boy...I like the name, too.
Make sure you watch the video!
:)
That looks a lot like the pit bull my friend has. It’s nothing but a lap dog too. He sounds bad out at the gate and might be bad if someone broke into the house but mostly he’s a lap dog.
Yes, they are the most trainable breed..for good or evil....I’m sure this breed will serve their master well. The problem is the master. Abuse comes in so many forms.
Pit Bulls originaly were trained to love men and protect them from feral dogs wandering neighborhoods. Others have abused their loyalty and drive to fight proud for their master by putting them in fighting cages for bets.
It’s disgusting, especially in light of the Obama messianism, exploiting natural black loyalty to evil ends of civil war and sexual homosexual gratification in America.
“Again, am staffs and bull terriers are targets of scumbag humans who train them to be vicious”
Yep. I don’t own one, but a neighbor did. One of the friendliest dogs I had ever seen.
Every dog has the ability to be aggressive if they’re not taken care of properly or socialized. Our neighbor’s black lab lunges and scratches at the window while barking and growling when I walk by their house like it wants to kill me. They never take it for walks or anything so it just goes berserk when it sees people. :(
I don’t understand why they don’t crack down on the owners instead of the dogs. If a stupid person can’t get a pitbull-ish type dog, they’ll just get a shepherd, rottweiler, mastiff, doberman or some other “scary” looking breed.
Its nice to see positive stories about the breed. :)
