Tori Amos has blasted voters who pushed through a gay marriage ban in California - because it goes against the teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The hitmaker, whose father is a Methodist minister, insists outlawing same-sex unions is un-Christian and a breach of civil rights.
And she is confused Californian voters passed the Proposition 8 bill - which reversed a previous ruling permitting gay marriage in the state - on the same day Barack Obama was elected U.S. President last year.
She tells Attitude magazine, "(I was) extremely disappointed. Well, we go back to this concept of emancipation. The idea of 'We will overcome' from the great Dr. Martin Luther King, was made flesh as Obama was put into the office and yet at the same time another group of people were subjugated by some of those voters.
"A lot of people were saying, 'Well you have to understand that a lot of the voters are Democratic and Christians, the ones that had an issue with rights for the gay community'. And I would say how, in any way, is that the Christian path?"

Well, Tori Amos. ok then! Let me just abandon my principles then. see my tagline
Poor Dr. King, already twirling in the grave because of Obama, then this.
This one should have a MAJOR BARF AND STUPIDITY alert on it!!
Poor Dr. King, already twirling in the grave because of Obama, then this.
::::::::::::
Yes, along with Ronaldus Maximus. But Stalin, Marx and Hitler are cheering from the grave.
this is the next step, equate the civil rights struggle with poofters wanting to implement their agenda on everyone else
MLK Jr. committed adultery. That sin is in the 10 commandments. So can we agree that while he did admirable things in his life, he was not an unflawed man?
He should not be held up as a role model for the homosexual agenda. That isn’t going to fly.
“And I would say how, in any way, is that the Christian path?”
Go forth and SIN NO MORE.
Don’t celebrate your sins.
I would advocate a lobotomy for hollywood types, but we probably wouldn’t notice the difference.
well the judges are taking their dear sweet time in reversing the will of the voters because they know the voters are going to be very very angry.
I don’t know about King but it is obvious that “devout Christian” Amos never read Paul.
Has Tori ever heard of the Old Testament?
lol.
I can’t pretend to know what MLK JR. would say about the matter...
No, not quite. I don't think anyone is against same sex unions. We're against same sex MARRIAGE.
Civil rigts are not a want list for aggrieved groups. Homosexuals are not permitted to "marry" within the same gender, neither are heterosexuals, asexuals, eunuchs, elves, tall people or caveman. To permit same sex "marriage" would be offering special rights to a small sector of society because they want to. I want a 1967 Shelby GT 500, but I don't expect the government to give me one because I want it.
I don't know why I bother to preach to the choir, maybe a curious liberal lurker will read it and have a light go on.
I have news for her and the rest of the white liberals, who
equate civil rights with gay marriage.Black men and women
do not like homosexuals!
That’s funny, because it was the black voter turn out that pushed the gay marriage ban through.
Besides being totally wrong about Rev. King, she needs to do some checking. Last thing I knew, the majority of the black community was against same-sex marriage.
yeah, I’m always checking to see what Tori’s take is on things.
