Is there really any way to take it back? Did we ever have it? My public skool education is showing — what little I know of history has been at my own intiative.

Sadly there isn’t really a way back in my opinion. People these days have simply gotten used to the status quo, and are happy bitching to the government for every right and wrong. And there is no way possible you can learn history in schools any longer, you are on your own. It’s either a gloss-over or indoctrination.
