Longview pit bull attack

LONGVIEW, Wash. -- The search is on for a dangerous pit bull that Longview police say bit a 3-year-old boy who was eating lunch with his mom in Victoria Freeman park Wednesday afternoon.

The boy suffered serious bite marks to his cheek and was treated at OHSU. Thursday afternoon, animal control officers with the Cowlitz County Humane Society searched the neighborhood for the white pitbull with brown brindle markings.

It ran off after the boys mom punched it during the attack. Newschannel 8 spoke with several neighbors who said the dog is a stray that's been hanging out in the area.

Pastor Bradley lives across the street from the park and says his own great great grandson was playing with the dog right before the attack.

"Jeramiah has been playing with the pit bull and he feeds it, so it's not a bad dog. It's just hungry," said Paster Bradley.

But animal control officers are worried the dog could attack again. The neighborhood is surrounded by homes and apartments and is filled with small children.

The stray pitbull is white with brown spots, if you see it the cowlitz county Human Society wants to hear from you right away.

My husband raises rodeo bulls and all his cattle are DNA tested so he can prove who sired the calves. He just gets a dab of blood and sends it into a registry and they check it and send him the results. My brother said they have just had the first dog from his vet clinic done.

*Most* shelters see a prick-eared dog and work “GSD” in there, somehwere.

You should go to Petfinder and type in “Ibizan”.

They’re the new “prick-eared” fad.

This is very annoying to those of us who were/are involved in Ibizan Hound rescue.

After Bunny won the hound class at Westminster and got to the BOS ring, everything remotely resembling [and I mean REMOTE] was labeled “Ibizan mix” because some little known breed was suddenly “chic”.

And what, precisely, does your comment have do with what I posted?

Scythian is not just anti-pb, he’s anti-dog.
Some worm phobia.

Oh, really?

Then Scythian [henceforth known as ‘El Vermiphobe’] can kiss my dog adoring ass.

Not ‘til you’ve seen it with your own eyes:

Yes...miraculously, 2 naturally prick-eared dogs somehow combined to create a drop-eared dog.

Doesn’t ‘dominant genetic factor’ just have the *wildest* sense of humor?....:)

WOW, that is quite a stretch. Maybe they figure it’ll be easier to adopt out if they say it’s an uncommon breed?

Even with a gun to my head, I couldn’t make a good wild guess what their “reasons” are.

Possibly playing up to “recent public awareness” of the breed?
[it’s only been around 5 or 6 thousand years so it’s not like it just showed up or anything]

Considering what living with Ibizans is really like, I’d think they’d go to great lengths to *avoid* mentioning them at all.

[can you imagine sharing your home with a critter who acts like a cross between a wild deer and a jackal? most folks really wouldn’t be into that]...:))

Shelter people are not experts and clearly mislabel dogs much. Neither are vets or indeed, many breeders. Dogs simply vary too much, especially if they are mutts, and that is the #1 reason I am against banning “This breed” and “That breed”.

More evidence of why I trust absolutely no-one to ID either rare or mixed dogs with certainty.

When I was a kid my German Shepherd got loose - and pregnant. No doubt by the roaming Labrador male.

Her pups were half black&tan, half yellow. We kept 2 of them (for a while), 1 of each. You would never have guessed the yellows were anything but poorly bred skinny Labradors (how the skinny happened for any of these dogs I don’t know, but it did; must be a throw-back). you might have guessed GS for the B&Ts, but also may have guessed Doberman.

"Good Lord! How did you capture that image so well?"

It was easy - the cat told me to get my camera ready, as she was going to beat the _ _ _ _ out of the pit bull!

I’m tired of these “Pit Bull Kills Child” stories. America is in love with pets but a child is worthless. Make sure you get your dogs and cats dewormed, 1 in 10 children of pet owners are infected with their pets parasites, per the CDC and that number is low. Word up.

Yeah, like anyone researches the breed before adopting.
Heck, they’re all dogs, right? (/retarded)

I knew some one that had basengis, and those were some of the wierdest, tightly-wound, disobedient, cat-like critters I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I’m cut out to deal with a primitive species like that. They were adorable, though.

I wonder how it would be if, instead of advertising mixed dogs by apparent breed, they separated them at the pound by personality type?
This dog likes to play ball, this dog sleeps all day, etc. I think it'd be alot easier for people to find the perfect shelter dog. One thing I really wanted out of a dog was an avid retriever, but Swiper is only interested in the ball if someone else has it.

A: I worm my dogs monthly with Sentinel and 3 times a year, they all get a round of Panacur, just in case.
B: I have no children and no personal inclination to ‘sample’ their droppings, myself which is how a few children end up infested.
[of course, if parents would bother to watch their kids, they would probably dissuade them from eating dog or cat crap]
C: Very few canid parasites can cross the species barrier.

You have a phobia.
Stop trying to infect other people with it.

Oddly enough, the internal parasites that *most* people have do NOT come from their pets.

In third world countries with little or no sanitation, the people are infested with all sorts of exotic creepy-crawlies.

My advice to you is NEVER travel overseas and if you do, -don’t- drink the water.

Here’s a list guaranteed to give you nightmares:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_parasites_(human)

NOBODY is ever truly safe from parasitic infestation, having pets or not.

Sweet dreams.
