Toddler Mauled By Dog May Lose Ear
Posted: 5:10 pm EDT April 20, 2009Updated: 5:22 pm EDT April 20, 2009 ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. -- WARNING: This story contains graphic details and may not be suitable for some readers.
A 4-year-old Rockdale County boy faces skin graft surgery after a pit bull mix named Chaos attacked him.
The boys mother said she literally pulled her son from the jaws of the dog and boys stepfather fought the dog as it kept attacking.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Jeff Dore went to the hospital to talk with the boys stepfather about what happened.
Hes an animal lover. He loves on them, kisses on them, said Brian Caron. Caron is the stepfather of 4-year-old Nathaniel Stafford.
When Caron came home from work, Nathaniels mother asked him to help her find Nathaniel.
The next thing I know, I heard her screaming bloody murder and I came running around the corner and I saw his skull hanging out and his ear hanging onto his shoulder. Id never seen anything like that in my entire life, said Caron.
A pit bull mix named Chaos was shaking Nathaniel by the head. The dog belonged to a friend of Nathaniels parents who had left it chained to a runner in their back yard for about a month.
Nathaniels mother pulled him away from Chaos. Chaos, who bit her too, continued to lunge for Nathaniel. Caron said he had to fight Chaos off.
Nathaniel had nearly lost an ear and his scalp was gone.
It tore it off and I had to recover it. I had to go back with the cop to the house and pick it up and put it in a bag and he brought it back to the hospital to the life flight, said Caron.
A helicopter life-flighted Nathaniel to Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, but they were not able to reattach his scalp and will have to graft skin.
Right now they dont know if theyre going to be able to save his ear or not. They said if they cant save it, theyll at least put an ear on for him. Whether its fake or not, hell at least have an ear, said Caron.
After 10 days in quarantine, the county will euthanize Chaos. Chaos was lawfully chained on a runner and the county said no one will face charges.
OH, you were talking about a specific person. I thought you were addressing the thread itself. I can’t possibly keep track of all the one track minds on FR!I don’t know anything about chet99
They should start naming their pit bulls Crow Snack, Swiss Cheese, Oil Lamp, Carrion, Decay, Putrescine, Botulinum, or Fertilizer. And if they try too hard to get in the way or protest too much,...
Add,,,”Target”...;0)
Good one...and “target.”
It was likely the pit bull half that instigated the rest of the dog to do the deed.
Of course, it is never the pit bull’s fault that a child ends up in its jaws.
Let’s see... So far, pit bull worshipers in the thread have offered one statement of epistemological relatism, one lie of semantic obfuscation on the breed, one false analogy, two statements of blaming a four-year-old kid for being mauled by the pit bull, three claims of “hate” against their pit bulls (victimology tactic born in radical feminism), one call for censoring negative news about pit bulls, and one statement of generalizing common behavior in pit bulls to all other dogs.
...fallacies brought by radical liberalism, liberal use of mind-altering substances or both?
...epistemological relativism, even. :-)
Oh, and after their arguments are shown to be so flawed, they usually resort to name-calling and other blowfish behavior.
Thank you for fulfilling my prediction to a T. The dog you remind me of right now is Pavlov’s dog. The media says “pit bull” and you salivate as they wish you to.
Attacks by ANY healthy dog of ANY breed are almost always the fault of a human. That human may be the one bitten, or it may be the dog’s owner, or it may be a twit who doesn’t teach their kids how to approach strange animals and then lets them wander about unsupervised next door to a large dog, but it is the humans in the equation that are the problem. Even “unprovoked” attacks are usually the result of the dog reacting to something they should have tolerated, but the owner failed to train them or mis-trained them toward aggression.
As a conservative I stand for personal responsibility, and that’s why I oppose the pit bull hysteria.
Please, show me some empirical evidence that pits are more dangerous than other breeds. Not anecdotal evidence, not media reports that may not even ID the dog properly (yes, this happens frequently) but hard scientific data that proves that a properly trained pit is more dangerous than a properly trained Shepherd or Lab.
If you’re counting my post as blaming the 4 year old, you may retract that accusation now. I wasn’t saying the four year old deserved it or failed, I was saying adults failed to properly instruct and supervise him.
As for “victimology tactic born in radical feminism,” whether that’s an accurate characterization or not, it’s also accurate to say that the anti-pit posts in most pit threads could come out of Brady Campaign press releases with very little editing.
Been reeeeally quiet here,,,
Cops STILL wearin’out left-side tires(burnin’them down),,,
Thug/turd ain’t said shiite!!!
Maybe it was the Banchi Thumb-Break full of .44 that shut
his fat mouth,,,(ducked his head when I took Harley to pee)
(ran back in the house),,,
I guess the cops finally got it through thug-woman’s head!
They told her just what I told them,,,
“I will “Open Carry” in MY back yard!!!” > . < (state law)
“I/WE will NOT be eaten!!!” > . < (My Law)...
Typo correction: any pit bull on my property will be shot.
I agree. But I’d go a step further. I’d kill any pit at loose in the neighborhood. That previous analogy about gunowner’s and pits doesn’t hold water. A gun owner is a rational animal, a pit is an irrational animal hard wired for viciousness.
You are correct sir! My spies inform me that rapper and hip hop “artists” are big into pit bulls. In fact one CD has a photo of a rapper with a woman on one leash and a pit on another leash. The caption? Which is the meanest bitch? Don’t you just love these scum bags and their imperishable contributions to the arts of America?
Agreed. All loose pit bulls are threatening pit bulls, and all of the fed-up neighbors agree. ;-)
