The red in them is BBQ flavoring, I’m guessing an excellent BBQ Chicken

I think their problem is their name.
If they were not called the “Rare Red Squirrel”, they would probably not be near extinction.
I know it works for the “Common Gray Squirrel” here in the U.S.

are among the purest left in Britain, thanks to a unique genetic code. Pure? Undiverse! Undiverse! Quick, moves some gray squirrels in with them to show the wonders of diversity.

Why did they have to be discovered? Here they were living peacefully and happily in the magical forest and along comes homo sapiens (probably a PBS or BBC biologist) to spoil it all. Now their secret is out and the fun is over. Why can’t hoomins leave other species alone??!!

So very cute. And brave. And smart and wily. Long may they outwit their many enemies. A credit to Wales and to all of us with Welsh ancestry.
Scamper on, oh brave red squirrels.

Staff and volunteers supported by the BBC Wildlife Fund and Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), have already scoured large areas of the pine forest, looking for characteristically-chewed cones and squirrel nests, called dreys, in trees. I dunno, sounds like a lynx hair hunt to me.

It’s been suggested by the NY Times that all humans refusing to vacate the area should be immediately executed.

Wow, they’re very red indeed. I hope their ‘discovery’ doesn’t mean their destruction...it often does.

Town next to mine has only black squirrels. Every other town in the area has brown ones.
