Cris Collinsworth will succeed John Madden as the analyst in the NBC broadcast booth for the network's Sunday night NFL game telecasts, NBC executive Dick Ebersol announced during a conference call with reporters today.

Madden announced his retirement from broadcasting earlier today, rejecting an offer made Wednesday by Ebersol to work the network's September and November games next season and take October and December off.

They could try to lure John “The Geek” Clayton from ESPN!

"I always thought Chris leaned our way, but the fact of the matter is he is horrible as an announcer.

A horrible announcer? Let me lay two words on you...Bryant Gumble. Now, that's a horrible announcer.

Collinsworth can just be marginally irritating from time to time.

Collinsworth is a total idiot. I don't care what his politics are; I watch football for football, not political insight.

My objection is his inane pointless chatter, totally unrelated to the game. When he does comment on the actual game, his bias shows. I'm sure what he has against Peyton Manning, but as a Colts fan, I've yet to hear him say anything positive about Peyton or the Colts.

This is bad news. Chris is often insufferable.

Yep, that’s how I watch MNF. With the sound off.

I don’t think Collinsworth is a conservative. You should have heard him droning on about Katrina.

He used to have more sense, but over the years he’s become more liberal and less fun.

Agreed. No way he’s conservative. That doesn’t matter to me so long as he keeps his mouth shut. But he doesn’t.

Bryant Gumble is the worst ever! Now Greg Gumbel and Phil Simms are a different story. Them, I like.

To be honest, I also hate that rip-off of an intro by Faith Hill. While she’s trying to act like she really admires men who watch football, you can hear the little voice inside her head saying, “Holy crappola, the garbage I have to do for money.” It’s just completely unauthentic.

By contrast, Hank Williams Jr. is well worth catching before I turn the sound off on MNF.

Reese is hard to read. Here's what I would do. The G-men have 10 picks including 5 in the top 100-a first, two seconds, and two thirds. I would move up and grab Maluaga and Kenny Britt. The reason the G-men could not get off the field (with all due respect to your Eagles who deserved to win) was because of Pierce. Can't cover and can't tackle. Other than that he's OK. Those slants and flare passes to the RBs were killing us.

Canty and Bernard were great pick ups in free agency. With Maluaga in the middle, teams will have a hard time running. Eventually, they'll have to throw. Good luck with Osi, Kiwi, Tuck, et.al running down the QB.

After Maluaga and Britt, I would look for a backup RB, OT, and OG.

The G-men are in great shape IMHO-they could use a starting MLB and WR and backups at the trhee positions I mentioned.

Peters was an awesome signing by the way. I could hear Osi cursing all the way over here.

No way are the G-men giving up Steve Smith or Kiwi. Maybe a first and third. That being said, I’d keep the picks. Eli has a confidence problem and Edwards drops will make him shy away from throwing to him.

Good point. Sir drop a lot would drive Eli nuts for sure.

Every time a team makes a trade you ask, did you make your team better?
This deal doesn’t make the Giants better, and no matter how many draft picks the Browns get, it doesn’t help them either.

Nothing will get the Browns to a Super Bowl. short of turning back the clock to 1995 and telling the NFL to go fly a kite and not accept the deals made to bring “football” back after a 3 year hiatus.....
