I felt that her version of "Cry me a River" was better than "I Dreamed a Dream". On BGT, she displayed great ability, but I didn't feel she showed as much control or projection on the lower end of her voice range as she did on the high end.

I think a lot of the effect with the BGT video is that everyone's reaction goes from a rolled-eyes "Sheesh!" to a raised-eyebrows "Holy Crap!". Now that she won't have that surprise factor going for her anymore, people might pay attention to where she may have weaknesses. Then again, because of the "feel good story" angle though, maybe not.

True, the surprise factor is over, but it makes no difference. Nobody's ever gone from total obscurity to practically having their name become a household word so fast since it happened to Monica Lewinsky. In this case, it's more like the Cinderella story that everybody loves so much, that's how Hollyweird was able to sell the public on the joys of prostitution with "Pretty Woman".
