As y'all know there is a Freepathon going on
and I thought it might be a fun idea to raise some contributions in Chet's name.
Kinda like making lemonade out of lemons.
As you might be aware, our buddy Chet like to post pitbull stories.
I'm suggesting to those who want to join in
that over the next week we set aside a certain amount of money each day to be donated to FR.
There can be 2 donation levels, one of $5/day and one of $10/day.
From those base levels we will subtract $1/day for each pitbull article that Chet post.
The folks at the $5/day level, if Chet remains consistent are likely to pay nothing.
For example Chet has posted SIX pitbull articles today,
Folks at the $5/day pledge level would donate nothing for today.
Folks at the $10/day pledge level would be on the hook today for $4
(course the day isn't over yet and Chet might post 4 more articles before midnight)
We'll start tomorrow and tally up the totals next Saturday,
post our results on the Freepathon thread and make our Chet Challenge donations.
It could also be the time when we make any additional donations in the name of all us dog lovers here on FR
fairly amazed by this entire thread. I know there was previously some legitimate gripes when pit bull threads were in the news section of the forum, but I’ve posted everything in pets/animals/chat section. If you don’t want to see stories about your beloved breed chomping on the umpteenth child, don’t read them.
Y’know, I’m not sure if I’m om the RDO list or not.
If not, I’d like to remedy that now.

My experience is the media calls many different breeds of dogs "pit bulls".

You accidentally forgot the 2nd paragraph, which identifies the breed of the dog (not a pit or rottie):

I see in your last link, you identified the dog that was not a pit or rottie (the cocker spaniel one), so I figured you just forgot to post the 2nd paragraph of that other poodle one. / :-)
Also, I seriously am sorry that you are still having trouble with your neighbors ~ that's no way to live. I haven't seen all the posts you've wrote about this...does your city/town have an animal control or humane society? That's sad that they don't investigate this jerk.
Please include me with BagCamAddict I’m in for $5 a week and all anti Pit posters. I’m a dog groomer and I have witnessed Pit attacks. I’ve also been bit in the face by a Rottie. Some of the worst bites I’ve experienced were from Cocker Spaniels. The all time most debilitating bite I had was a Husky. It IS all about the owner.

Eightteen pit bull articles since April 11, 2009. Again, that is just in the past week. Eightteen articles in a week on a political blog about a non-issue like a breed of dog is going to make happy owners of the breed want to retaliate...like this thread.

Maybe the fact that you're "fairly amazed" has to do with the fact that you're finally seeing that people are showing how fed up they are. People don't have to read your threads to get annoyed with your constant (& I do mean constant) headlines about the pit bulls...
I actually am really concerned about you because you seem so unbelievably obsessed with this subject, while ignoring posts & threads directed to you about positive stories about pit bulls, or dangerous attacks by other breeds (not pit bulls).
An honest question to you, Chet ~ have you read the positive threads about pit bulls that people have pinged you to? Especially the Michael Vick pit bulls that Best Friends Animal Society took in & are rehabilitating (the dogs are making amazing progress). Have you watched the video of Halle that I posted several times (the Vick pit bull who is close to being adopted)?
It's absolutely tragic when a person gets hurt or killed by ANY breed, but dogs need to be judged on their own individual behavior, not just because they are of a certain breed. I mean, even you would have to admit that your threads are incredibly biased, since you only focus on attacks by pit bulls. There's a lot of good pit bulls out there too...for a good start, go read the stories on Best Friends website to find several of them: http://www.bestfriends.org/

HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM)- A Holland woman has an unlikely hero to thank after breaking up a domestic fight.
The 32-year-old's estranged husband beat her and attempted to abduct her from her safe house in Holland.
The plan was foiled thanks to a dog which usually gets a bad rap.
The fight between Steven Schumacher, 33, and his wife was very public. Witnesses say he beat and dragged his wife across the street, attempting to get her into his vehicle.
But the fact the fight was public may have helped. That's how Blitz saw the events unfolding from his window, and 'blitzed' to the rescue.
Judging by his barking through the window, we're presuming Blitz is no fan of cameras.
Blitz is a two-year-old, hundred and something pound pit bull; yes, the kind many fear.
"He'll protect us when we need it," says his owner. "But he's a great house pet, he's great with my kids, he's wonderful."
Due to the nature of this tale Blitz's owner does not want to be known. She says close to 11:00p.m. Wednesday she heard screams for help.
"It's still surreal," she says. "I haven't even slept yet, (I'm) still kind of shaken about what could have happened to her."
She saw Schumacher beating and dragging his estranged wife. "(I was) scared of what could have happened to her, because he was close to getting her in his car."
Blitz saw it too.
"He about knocked me out of the door to get to them. I heard her screaming, 'help me', repeatedly and I came out my front door and my dog spilled past me and went and scared him a little bit."
She says he never bit anyone, but scared Schumacher just enough that he loosened his grip on his wife, who then ran inside Blitz's home and waited for police.
"He was still in the area, I believe in the front yard of the residence," says Captain Rick Walters of the Holland Police Department. "He was taken into custody without incident."
Walters isn't sure how long the couple had been separated, but says they were living apart.
"He went to that residence, broke into that residence and then confronted her and assaulted her in that residence," says Walters.
What Schumacher's intentions were are still not known.
Police say they did find a knife in Schumacher's pocket but do not think it was used during the attack.
What is known though is the dog many fear, saw fear, and became a hero.
There has NEVER in the history of Earth a "pitbull" that weighed 100+ pounds.
Pitbulls max out at about 75-80 pounds, and that is a FAT boy.
Over 100 pounds and looking like the ONE picture *I* have seen, I'd likely ID Blitz as a Presa Canario, but I'm nost likely mistaken.
It's actually humbling to take a serious identification test for canine breeds. So many can look so similar.
Chet should put the blame where it should be placed and that is the breeders not the dogs. They are the ones responsible for what is happening in some cases to this breed.
The dog is a good breed; but with the bad breeders breeding in aggression what did he expect to happen?
You can’t breed the bad out the dog; but you can breed the good in and that is what should be happening.
