I’m not trying to be deprecatory, I’m interested in this.
These are questions that I’m not smart enough to answer.
But one thing I do know is that if someone decided to try this, a half-assed attempt would be far, far worse than no attempt at all.
Obviously you’d needto get candidates into office that would allow you to present your idea to the state, but how are you going to get them into office?
Maybe a statewide coalition of business owners?
Assuming the state voted your way, what then?
What would you do when the feds decided to burn down a city to make a point?
What little I know of our history leads me to believe that the revolution was not lead by a rag-tag band of spontaneous patriots, but was fairly well organized by a few wealthy, dedicated men.
Step 5: Begin dismantling the welfare state inside of Texas.
Step 6: Accept applicants who want to move to Texas and can show just cause(Conservative)
Step 7: Invade Cuba -Establish democracy.
Step 8: Invade Venezuela -Establish democracy
Step 9: Increase Shiner Bock brewing capacity by 300%
So step one...Where do we start with the details? Would we just need a certain amount of signatures? If so, somebody should have been working the tea parties! :-)

It seems like Perry’s already backpedaling as fast as he can, and I doubt KBH would take up the cause.
I think outright civil war, with the victors taking all is much more likely than a breakup.
Why rewrite the Constitution? It is a great document.
The problem is we do not follow it. The Courts have been chipping at it all my life. The Legislature thinks they are Kings, and the Senate is terminally arrogant. Now the new inhabitant of the White House, is a arrogant Kenyan Commie.

But do not touch the Constitution. Simply through out the garbage we have representing us and running our government.
I live/work in TX. People are talking a LOT about it in the coffee bars, including some execs.
I think it’s interesting how the media is downplaying and ridiculing Gov Perry’s comments. I even read one Dallas Morning Times article that asserted that the reporter had reviewed some Texas Library Archives asserting that there is no secession provision in Texas constitution. All I can say is that every person who is a product of Texas schools, KNOWS that Texas is the only state to be able to secede from the union. Anyone who has taken a TX History class and actually read the original TX Constitution has learned that.
While I would hope this would not happen, I fear that it is a very real and credible possibility. Water cooler talk is growing in support. I think Obama needs to really pay attention and run our country by appealing to ALL people instead of courting Democrat party favor at the expense of the common citizen (who earns less than $100K and could never afford to contribute to his campaign).
Legs, this isn’t about me, or how to do it, and it most certainly is not about taking up arms. It’s about a dialogue. I’m curious how many posts this thread will end up with. I’m hoping that we can get enough inertia to move the discussion on to other blogs, etc. etc.

Perry is a jerk. He most likely said what he did as a lark, in order to (finally) get some conservative support. The fact that he’s so out of touch with the state meant that he had no idea what he would unleash.
I am interested in what Kay has to say...she was up 20 points for the governorship but could lose it all by laughing off this movement.
But it is still early, as the effects of the meltdown have not yet been felt (i.e., it’s getting bad, but it is still just a recession). In another year, just about everyone running for office in Texas will have to take secession seriously.

If Texas goes a whole bunch more will follow. The only ones to stay behind will be California and the Northeast, except for New Hampshire. Lets see the Liberals support themselves without the producers!
The technical procedure would be a vote with the current state Government staying intact for interim service, with new elections after whatever constitutional convention took place. If smaller states were to try this, they would be well advise to do so with other neighboring states as a region.
We should concentrate on the moral and practical reasons for secession. What it looks like and how to go about it comes later.
After a few years Texas will be asked for aid by New York and California as the Libs drain the resources.

Agree...once the people of the state are behind it, then the procedure will fall into place. Unfortunately, we still have some months to go...as most people still haven’t been crippled by job loss or sky-high inflation.
