In a week, Susan Boyle has gone from karaoke and her local church choir to global fame and an invitation to the Oprah Winfrey show. The frumpy 47-year-old, who says she's never been kissed, has gained celebrity fans and millions of admirers including a fair number of men since she wowed judges on the TV show "Britain's Got Talent." Her fame has been fueled by new technology, with a clip of her performance viewed more than 12 million times on Google's YouTube video site. "Susan can't help herself, she just sings whenever she can sing," said Jackie Russell, the manager of the Happy Valley Hotel in Blackburn, Scotland, where Boyle occasionally sings karaoke. "We weren't surprised by her talent, but we were surprised by the reaction around the world."

Wow. This woman is really phenomenal. I don’t even know what this song is, but it’s a completely different style than “I Dreamed a Dream.” She really has an incredible talent.

Once in a life time you run across something like that. I am familiar with Henry Purcell. This is not a woman singing a 4 minute pop song but an aria. I am amazed when i hear opera singers particularly in something from Mozart where you might have 4 voices singing at once and not singing together.

I recall going to small towns in Italy and the local small orchestra would have a full concert with Mozart, Handel, Albanoni, Vivaldi or Scarlati. You were floored because they were incredibly good.

I really do not watch these reality shows because the kids voices are usually pretty good but not incredible. I heard the story, watched the video, saw the snickering because she was not a kid or gorgeous but after about 3 seconds i realized her voice was staggering.

I think it is probably a done deal with distribution in Europe and the USA and probably the world. What a voice.

yes. They were snickering but what I found incredible was within about 3 seconds you could tell she was an amazing singer. It was almost instantaneous. I never saw anything like that. It would usually take a minute or so.

One of the articles in England said that she is very mildly retarded. Of course, that matters little. She is gifted like none other.

(I only wanted to make a point that some abortion-loving people would have wanted her not to be born, and how much we would miss in life if everyone here had 125 IQ or above.)

“Could it be that the world is fed up with the brats and misfits the entertainment industry throws at us and elevates to star status? “

What ? Are you crazy? Are you really suggesting that some people might actually want to grow up? You are kidding, right?

“Britney Spears be damned.”

No need to damn the poor girl. She’s doing that to herself. Lord have mercy.

I saw it for the first time last night & have watched it several times since. The lesson here is to never, ever give up on your dreams. More importantly (and perhaps the hardest lesson of all), it does not matter what anyone else thinks.
