HBO Casting Call: Who Will Play Sarah Palin? (In "The Race of a Lifetime"-- Tenative Title)
Seattle PI ^ | 4/15/09

In case you missed it ... HBO is making a movie about the 2008 presidential campaign.

Hollywood doesn't wait around anymore, it seems. So already a casting director somewhere is probably asking herself this question:

Who should play John McCain, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Barack Obama and -- yes -- Sarah Palin?

Salon & Entertainment Weekly have posed the question, and it's a good one.

Salon readers have pitched Megan Mulally, Hilary Swank, Sandra Bullock and Felicity Huffman for Palin and Laura Linney, Glenn Close and Meryl Streep for Clinton -- with Will Smith playing Obama.

P.S. -- The movie is based on a book about the campaign -- a book written by political writers Mark Halperin and John Heilemann that won't be published until next year.

I want them to cast Mira Sorvino as Sarah Palin, she’s almost the right age (at 41), she’s a great actress, and is really hot, so that she will be able to capture the hotness of Sarah Palin.

Janine Turner would be great. She’s also a great fit politically!

Not to mention that she played an Alaskan for several years on “Northern Exposure”.

Here’s my casting:

Michelle - Martin Lawrence
Obama - Eddie Murphy
Hilary - Camryn Manheim
McCann - Steve Martin
Biden - Jason Alexander
Palin - She’ll have to play herself. No one else is worthy.

She was very good on Northern exposure but she’s great now when she’s talking conservative politics. Did you happen to catch her on Glenn Beck yesterday?

I would want Sandra Bullock if I were to chose. I just like her and don’t find her a fringe liberal. Quite frankly I don’t know what her politics are and guess what??? I like that. Yes even if she is conservative. I don’t need to know one way or the other.

I think Sandra Bullock would be terrific in this part. Now if they do n’t turn it into a joke ... probably too late to hope for that
