Clearly, Rush is trying not to overstate the numbers.
I do think that his estimate is low, because I know of Tea Parties in Kansas that are not on the “official list”.
That is the point - while many of the bigger gatherings saw 1000-2000, many of the 800 or so “TEA Parties” were held in smaller towns with much smaller attendance. 50 at one that I know of, 200 at another, and so on.
And because this was a very loose-knit “event”, there really is no way of getting an accurate count nationwide.
I do know that the main event in Little Rock had about 2000 in attendance (at the peak), yet local media reporting “hundreds”.
