Back in 1969 & 1970, when I was in Viet Nam, occasionally I needed to travel from one part of Viet Nam to another on short notice. I used to go over to the airfield (Vung Tau) and walk around the tarmac asking the pilots where they were headed on the chance that I could bum a ride where I needed to go. The Army, Navy and Air Force pilots were tough to get rides with, they were always afraid of getting in trouble. However, you could always count on the Air America pilots though. “Sure, hop aboard. You’re not here. You were never here.” Love them guys.
