Is there an advantage to using synthetic oils in street cars?? Adverse effects on engine longevity or efficiency?? Just asking, because I have never considered using synthetic based on the higher price and have not seen empirical evidence that they were better? Please comment.

The best oil supplement I have ever used is called Motorsilk, its the only one that actually changed how my engine ran, it revved quicker, it started quicker in sub zero temps and when the next oil change came around there was less carbon in the oil.
I religously change my oil every 1500 miles in winter (I am in Alaska) with Mobil 1 and in the summer I usually let it go to 2,000 miles.
I would NEVER let the oil stay in over 2,000 miles.
