The park bench facing Lake Washington is covered with flowers, poems, a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes and graffiti...
Fifteen years ago Wednesday, at a house adjacent to the park, Kurt Cobain's dead body was discovered by an electrician.
The Nirvana frontman, 27, had committed suicide, police later ruled, killing himself with a shotgun while high on heroin and pills...
Nirvana band mates Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl eventually formed other bands. Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, stayed in the limelight with an acting career and legal problems surrounding her own drug problems...
But Nirvana's music endured, and Cobain even found fans in his hometown of Aberdeen, which he had derided as a small-minded town.
"The old-timers who were there when Kurt was around really took offense to some of the things he said about the area, so they had no real reason to honor him," said Burlingame, who co-founded the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee.
A famous son is a famous son, though. Now, visitors arriving in Aberdeen are greeted with a sign that reads "Come As You Are," after a famous Nirvana song.
Cobain Memorial Committee members, who include Cobain's paternal grandfather, hope to establish a community center in the late rocker's honor that would give area youth a place to play music and pursue artistic interests...
When Cobain died, he left behind a fortune that was estimated in the millions...
According to Holmes, Love recently discovered that "managers, assistants, CPAs, lawyers, people like that who were supposed to be entrusted with carrying for their well-being and finances basically looted the estate."
Forensic accountants are now trying to determine where tens of millions of dollars from Cobain's estate ended up and how it could be recovered, Holmes said.

I liked some of his stuff. He was good when he screamed.
But he sang like a rusty hinge.
You took the words right out of my mouth. /Meatloaf
Actually, it hasn't at all. It's incredibly dull and dated stuff. All sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Truth is, Dave Grohl was a much more talented singer and musician than Cobain ever was (and I think Cobain knew it).
Of all the frivolous, self-absorbed 90's alt-rockers, I think Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden have held up the best.
Most over rated band EVER!!!
It's an ugly world when the people you're required to turn to for legal help are the ones who take you... ugly world.
Ahhhh 90’s grunge. Kurt rocked.
Great music to slit your wrists by, or compel you to do so if you'd never considered it before.
Back in the first half of the 20th Century, Sinclair Lewis (a Minnesota author) wrote the book “Main Street”, a scathing look at life in small towns.
Although he denied it (with not much conviction), people in the town of Sauk Centre (where Lewis hailed from) thought the book was written about them. Lewis was shunned by many in the city and never went back - as far as I know.
Sauk Centre later refurbished Lewis’s birthplace and opened a small visitors center and casts themsleves as the birthplace of Sinclair Lewis.
I see that Aberdeen has now started a “Curt Cobain Memorial Committee” to honor a former resident who dissed them too. Curt Coabin may have had some musical genius in the early years but many of his years were clouded by questionable (and drug-influenced) decisions.
Although there are some distinct differences between what Sinclair Lewis wrote and lived and what Curt Cobain said and lived, I just fail to see how some of these towns can have the gall to honor someone who never honored them.
Lawyers should never be trusted. Ever.
I remember where I was too and recall that I didnt care anymore then than I do now.
Grunge rock......yecchhhh
Yet, you cared enough to take the time to post on this thread about how much you don’t care!
Bless your heart.

I never caught on to the grunge craze. Those were the Emo’s of the 90’s IMO. Give me Zepplin, The Stones, Anthrax, Megadeth, etc. any day over that crap.
Ironic, eh?
Well Mudhoney (and Monkeywrench) are still around putting out new albums.
And getting as little media attention as ever...
It’s debatable whether U2, REM, Pearl Jam, or Led Zepplin are even more overrated.
Replace Zeppelin with Radiohead and add Nirvana and that’s a pretty good list.
I mean which of the list is MOST overrated. :)
