INDIANAPOLIS -- A man was arrested on an attempted murder charge Thursday after a woman died following a swordfight between him and another man at a home on Indianapolis' far-northwest side.
Franziska Stegbauer, 77, died after she tried to intervene in a fight between her grandson, Chris Rondeau, 39, and her brother-in-law, Adolf Stegbauer, 69, at about 1 a.m. in the 5200 block of Raceway Road.
Police said the two men got into an argument that escalated into a battle involving swords that both men brandished.
Franziska Stegbauer was stabbed, but an autopsy will be conducted to determine if she died from stab wounds or from a heart attack.
The attempted murder charge stems from the attack involving Adolf Stegbauer, who underwent surgery at Wishard Memorial Hospital and was in serious condition late Thursday morning.
